Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Report

Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle Report- Sept 12,  2025

Week: 120       Last Week   240          Last Year 360

These prices acquired from Missouri producers, Trading as of this Friday morning September12,  trade so far this Friday morning has been slow to inactive as producers are not ready to take lower money or bids a few sales on Tuesday with Flat dressed sales 8.00 lower at 375.00.  Negotiated live sales in the Northern Plains started on Tuesday 5.00 lower at mostly 238.00 and increased to 240.00 on Thursday with dressed sales at mostly 375.00-378.00,  5.00-7.00 lower.   The Southern Plains sales have been light so far.   Last week's slaughter was 487,000, down 78,000 from previous week and 61,000 less than a year ago.  Comprehensive carcass weights the weighted average for both steers and heifers was up 9 lbs from last week at 932 lbs, but 26 lbs above last year at this time.  Packers have started to increase slaughter volumes with estimated slaughter this week at 580,000.   As production levels continue to climb look for this to pressure boxed-beef values.  The general thought is that boxed-beef prices will seasonally decline after Labor Day but how much still remains the question.  This has allowed packers to increase their margins and they have been very successful in pushing the product higher until now as boxed-beef prices are starting to drop as Choice has lost nearly 14.00 since last Thursday's close.  Choice boxed-beef on Thursday closed 4.85 lower at 400.79 and Select down 3.73 at 379.95 with a Choice-Select spread narrowing to 20.84, compared to last Thursday’s close with Choice at 414.21 and Select at 387.77.  Slaughter Cattle under Federal inspection on Thursday was at 459, 000, last week 363,000 and last year 486,000.  The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was 11.66 per cwt unchanged when compared to Wednesday 's value.
