Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle

These prices acquired from Missouri producers, Trading as of this Friday

morning March 28, Flat dressed sales are steady at 335.00 with Grid

dressed sales late last Friday after 3:00 PM at 340.00, Friday morning

2.00 higher 342.00.  Negotiated cash trade so far this week has been slow

to develop as producers are not interested and passing lower bids.  This

will be the seventh week of sharply lower slaughter volumes with

estimated slaughter this week at 590,000-595,000. Slaughter reductions

have enabled packers to move cut-out prices higher giving producers

reasons to hold out for higher prices.  Comprehensive carcass weights the

weighted average for both steers and heifers were up 2 lbs from last week

to 915 lbs, but 30 lbs above last year at this time. Choice boxed beef

prices have been on a tear this week gaining near 10.00 on Choice but

finding resistance on Thursday as Choice boxed-beef closed 2.58 lower at

335.72 with Select closing 2.91 higher at 319.44 with a Choice-Select

spread at 16.28, compared to last Friday’s close with Choice at 325.45

and Select at 309.62.  Slaughter Cattle under Federal inspection on

Thursday was at 485,000, last week 440,000 and last year 480,000.  The

hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was 11.58

per cwt up .16 cents when compared to Wednesday’s value.

  Steers and Heifers (80 percent Choice)  4 loads Flat Friday 335.00.

 Grid Dressed Sales:  (over 80 percent Choice)  2 loads late last Friday

after 3:00 PM at 340.00.  Friday morning 2 loads 342.00.
