Week:   280                 Last Week   120                         Last Year 320

These prices acquired from Missouri producers, Trading as of this Friday morning October 31,  trade so far this Friday morning is light with Flat dressed sales mostly 8.00-10.00 lower trading from 355.00-358.00 with Grid dressed sales inactive.  Negotiated live sales started on Monday in the Northern Plains after CME cattle futures continued their steep sell-off with trade mostly 5.00-8.00 lower at 228.00 to mostly 230.00, dressed sales mostly 355.00-360.00 mostly 10.00 lower.  Southern Plains have traded a few live sales on Thursday at 235.00 mostly 3.00 lower.  The sharp sell-off that started last week has the cattle futures and market in a cautious and jittery mindset even though fundamentals remain strong.  Last week's slaughter was 573,000, up 6,000 from previous week and 52,000 less than a year ago.  Comprehensive carcass weights the weighted average for both steers and heifers was at 948 lbs, up 1 lb from previous week and 22 lbs above last year at this time.  Packers have been losing ground and are starting to gain on the boxed-beef values as they have moved higher this week as beef demand has been in a seasonally slow period, but appears to have made a seasonal low as prices have started to firm up instead of losing ground as Choice gained nearly 5.00 since last Thursday's close.  As we enter the fall season with the holidays around the corner boxed-beef prices should remain on a up turn.  Choice boxed-beef on Thursday closed 3.11 lower at 378.27 and Select down 2.27 at 359.22 with a Choice-Select spread widening to 18.75 compared to last Thursday’s close with Choice at 373.14 and Select at 354.74.  Slaughter Cattle under Federal inspection on Thursday was estimated at 457, 000, last week 446,000 and last year 491,000.  The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was 11.40 per cwt up .11 cents when compared to Wednesday 's value.
